Girlboss Issue

Drawing inspiration from early 2000s magazine aesthetics, this “mini-magazine” reinterprets the iconic format to address today’s socially conscious climate, engaging readers with serious topics presented in a relatable and thought-provoking way.

The project critiques performative activism by public figures, urging media consumers to rethink who they empower. In an age of social media and influencer culture, platforms hold immense potential to shape opinions and drive conversations. However, many celebrities and influencers use humanitarian causes as props to boost their image while avoiding meaningful action on complex issues like genocide, racial injustice, and war. By calling out these empty gestures, the zine emphasizes the importance of holding figures of influence accountable and supporting those who make genuine, ethical contributions to progress.

Propaganda Machine

A 140 cm-long poster showcasing shocking examples of dehumanizing language used to describe ethnic groups, specifically focusing on Palestinians in this project. The terms, sourced directly from news outlets, highlight the harmful rhetoric that perpetuates bias and stereotypes. Arranged in a list format, the poster emphasizes the cumulative impact of these terms, creating a relentless visual experience that intensifies their shock value and forces viewers to confront the persistence of such dehumanizing language.

Weaponized Language

This 3D piece represents the brutality of war as a colonial strategy, where aspects of a native culture are weaponized against its own people. The metal chain, formed from Arabic letters to mimic shackles, serves as a powerful metaphor for the weaponization of identity and heritage.

No Freedom Without Liberation

This poster blends a collection of cultural symbols, each representing resistance in a visual expression of solidarity with movements for justice and self-determination. Accompanied by a well-known phrase that translates to ‘We have on this land all of what makes life worth living,’ the design aims to inspire hope, motivate action, and reinforce the strength of collective resistance in the face of adversity.

Zanana

This project provides a small-scale representation of just one aspect of the brutality endured by Palestinians in Gaza. ‘Zanana’—an onomatopoeia—represents the relentless buzzing sound of military drones, a constant and oppressive presence that enforces unceasing surveillance over the Gaza Strip.

For this project, I designed an immersive experience by setting up a speaker system with directional speakers to replicate this sound, intentionally mimicking the invasiveness of the buzzing. The goal was to allow participants to mentally tap into a space that reflects the invasive reality of living under colonialism and to momentarily emulate a fraction of this very real experience. Accompanying the sound, I included small informational flashcards to provide context and explain the concept behind this setup.

Claimed Identity

This poster piece highlights the struggles faced by ethnic individuals as the media continuously strips them of their identity through harmful and dehumanizing misrepresentations. The work visually embodies this erasure through a distorted homogeneous effect, symbolizing how unique identities are fragmented and reduced to a singular, warped narrative.

Selective Speech

An A1 poster highlighting the bias in Western media reportage, where selective word choice and passive language are used to manipulate narratives and perceptions.

Do You Qualify?

This comic strip takes a humorous approach to unpacking the concept of systemic racism. Using satire and straightforward illustrations, it encourages viewers to question the structures that perpetuate inequality, presenting a simplified perspective on a deeply ingrained issue.

ADHD - Behind the Scenes

This stop-motion piece, featuring hand-drawn illustrations, takes a humorous approach to exploring the intricate thought processes of people with ADHD when tackling tasks that may seem straightforward or mundane to neurotypicals. Designed to be both educational and insightful, the video aims to bridge understanding for those unfamiliar with this experience.
